MOTHER'S DAY (2010) MOVIE REVIEW

Okay, so I got this movie from On Demand thinking it was the 1980's version, which I thought I might have seen at some point but had no real recollection of. Enter modern-day actors minus feathered hair and shoulder pads and I realized that this film was made pretty recently. Weird, I had never heard of it. But having a baby has kind of thrown me off my horror movie game. My house is now only occasionally filled with the sound of buzzing chainsaws and screaming women. How does a  horror-addict-turned-new-parent cope? Well, that's the stuff for a different post - onto the movie review...

I actually really liked Mother's Day. It's a roller-coaster-ride movie. It's a Fuck, that didn't just happen! movie. It's a Oh no he didn't! Oh no he didn't movie. People are dropping left and right, the body count is high. Strong performances delivered by Rebecca "She Must Be A Little Psycho Because She Plays Psycho So Well" De Mornay and relative newcomer to the big screen Patrick Flueger. You'll recognize redhead Deborah Ann Woll from True Blood

This movie had me breathless from beginning to end. Okay, so the end end was a bit like they couldn't leave well enough alone. But overall, a smashing ride. Color me pleasantly surprised.

The critics panned Mother's Day, so if you tend to side with the critics, what is wrong with you? and give this one a miss. Otherwise, grab a bowl of popcorn and watch with a group of your closest friends. Oh, and if your house was formerly owned by a brooding family of psychos, best to go on over to Bob's or Frank's or Sally's. Just trust me on this one.
